Day Retreat – Handpan & Nature
Have you already attended a handpan introductory course and are wondering whether the handpan is really right for you? Or would you simply like to experience an intensive day full of music, nature and mindfulness?
Then this Day Retreat – Handpan & Nature is exactly right for you.
The focus is not on theoretical learning, but on making music together, consciously listening to the sounds and experiencing how connecting, slowing-down and enriching the handpan can be.
Schedule
We begin the day in a relaxed atmosphere and tune in together to the world of the handpan.
First we review the basics of playing technique. Each participant receives individual feedback so that posture, movement and touch can be consciously perceived and refined.
We then dive into consciously listening to the sounds, let the first grooves emerge and experience how quickly individual notes can become shared music-making.
Fun and making music together always come first. Together we work out a new pattern and bring it straight into the shared flow.
The perhaps most important aspect of this morning is letting go. It is not about playing everything perfectly, but about following your own intuition. Often new ideas, exciting rhythms and very personal forms of expression emerge precisely from supposed mistakes.
There is no wrong playing here – just go for it and discover what emerges.
⏱ Duration: approx. 2–2.5 hours
After the morning session we enjoy a shared lunch and let the musical impressions sink in. We then take a leisurely walk through the forest, exploring local wild herbs and edible plants.
We look at:
With a little attention we will almost certainly find a small natural dessert straight from nature.
The nature time serves as a relaxed digestive walk and offers space for conversation, exchange and inspiration.
⏱ Duration including lunch: approx. 2 hours
In the afternoon we explore simple and frequently used chord progressions and discover playfully how new musical ideas can emerge from them. We vary familiar sequences, experiment with new paths and experience how even small changes can create a completely different musical atmosphere.
The emphasis is on making music together, listening and intuitive interplay.
✦ Experience different handpans
Throughout the retreat the provided handpans can be swapped at any time. This gives you the opportunity to experience different materials, textures and tonal characters directly in play and groove.
The focus is mainly on handpans in D-Kurd, as this tuning is particularly versatile and accessible. Depending on availability, further scales will also be introduced to discover and feel the great sonic variety of the handpan.
